Value Analysis

Value Analysis is a systematic, organized system of investigation that comes from the field of engineering that was developed for the Ministry of Transportation. Historically training had been a 5-day certification program that provided more than the majority of employees needed. ShaughnessyHowell developed a one-day program that teaches the basics of the process so participants from all areas can contribute meaningfully on a project team despite the skills and knowledge they bring to the table. This highly interactive, relevant and practical classroom training program used a familiar project called Doug's Deck to illustrate the application of Value Analysis in a way that both engaged and excited the participants.

When ShaughnessyHowell began work on this project with the Ministry of Transportation the goal was to create a paradigm shift in which Value Analysis was incorporated into work culture. The internal experts had tried to "spread the word" but their past attempts at developing and delivering their own training had frustrated them and did not accomplish the "wow" they wanted. Since this program has rolled out, it has received 100% positive feedback and people are now applying Value Analysis principles in their day to day work. The Ministry of Transportation is now looking to introduce the program across other Provincial Ministries hoping it will become integral to the work of others.
